I'd recently flown on a to-and-fro flight from Singapore to Istanbul, on Turkish Airlines, on the 777-300ER. The flight was decent but here are the issues on the forward journey: 1. The male attendant servicing my area had an attitude problem, probably due to the high inflation in Turkey, the failed rebellions or something. He was cocky and not polite (different from being rude). I was sitting next to the aisle, but when it came to asking me for my meal preference, he'd said, 'Chicken or fish?', instead of the longer polite question. He was serving the passengers as if he was he's just getting through the day; there was no smile and no extra care. 2. As mentioned by Dan, it seemed as if once the meal trays were collected, the attendants just disappear for several hours. 3. There was no fan from the ceiling, something that would be helpful when the air-conditioning wasn't working fully yet. The 767 and 757 had such fans and this deficiency felt like the 777 was older than those two models. 4. The touch screen was really outdated and not sensitive. I had to use a combination of the screen and the dirty-looking cabled controller to choose the media I'd wanted to watch. 5. The screen was also of low resolution. On the return journey, I had a window seat. The issues were: 1. The attendants had disappeared, once the trays were collected. When I'd needed some water, I'd pressed the attendant lights and bell, but nobody came even after a while. I'd pressed it again and, no one came again. On my third attempt, an attendant did come, but I think she was just coincidentally passing by. Together with my much earlier issue with the attendant, it is as if the entire Turkish Airlines attendant staff community had developed an attitude problem! 2. The table was slanted, which meant the tray kept sliding into my body. Why did aircraft maintenance not spot this issue? The main positives for both flights was the relatively good food and the well-stuffed amenities bag that had lip balm, ear plugs, toothbrush and paste, slippers and socks. Back to the negatives - The Istanbul Airport was definitely robbing the passengers with their ridiculously priced items and, what's more, in Euros, rather than Turkish Lira! I didn't buy a single thing!

Let me explain. In case you didn’t see the name of my channel, well, is BERY ISTANBUL TIPS, that being said, I only share things about Istanbul and 🇹🇷 in general to help future travelers/tourists. And yes, I’m happy to see that you do have common sense while traveling, but unfortunately not everyone is like you or me, many people still fall for these scams and are just unaware of their surroundings making them easy targets for that people. Many need not one but many reminders of what to pay attention to. Lastly, yep! These scams are not only happening here, as someone who travels often abroad and have visited so many countries already including the so called ‘first world countries’, I can assure that scams happen everywhere, one just needs to have common sense when traveling and why not, besides researching for things to do, eat, etc, also learn about the not too pretty things precisely to avoid as much as possible some scams.

Never ever going back to that place. Imagine a taxi ride costing 20 Euros for just 3 km. I paid 12 Euros for a small cola. I gave the vendor 3 Euros and 120 lira, but he said I needed to pay 50 more lira, which I didn't have. He asked me to pay the rest by card and charged me 10 Euros, hiding the big number with his thumb and only showing me the 50 lira. I didn't have internet then to check my bank app. And it was funny, exchanging 10 Euros for lira, you get half a kilo of money, which makes you think you're safe for a moment. Never again to that place. I adhere to more civilized cultures.

Thank You so much for providing useful information for a tourist. You are a wonderful ambassador to your country. I have been to Turkey many years ago and I was so impressed with the wonderful history and culture. As far as prices, I hope there is a reconsideration of the prices for local people. There should be a free day every week for people of Turkey. It is important that people who live and work in Turkey can go and enjoy their heritage for free. As far as tourist tickets, I agree, they are about 30% too high. Turkey should welcome tourists by making it more affordable. Many young people learning about the world need to be able to come at affordable prices and visit these wondrous sites. I think lower prices would encourage people to spend more money at restaurants, and in the craftsman shops.

Don't forget the Metro card scam! It seems almost continuous in the tourist areas. When buying a travel card from the machine an overly pushy scammer will insist on "helping", even if you say no thanks. They'll quickly put the machine into Turkish so tourists can't read it. As money is loaded into your card they'll grab it and very quickly switch it (like a magic trick) with their own empty card. They probably sell to others at a lower price. The machines have many different languages and it's simple to do yourself. If somebody insists on helping, move to another machine. Don't let them stand anywhere near you.

I can imagine someplace similar in the US, England or France costing an arm and a leg , but Camlica Tower is in any budget. I took my mother there for her birthday. Being from Virginia, USA she was amazed by the contrast between the historic European side and the modern-futuristic feel of the tower.

I travelled to Turkiye last year, (From Scotland) visiting Fethiye, Antalya and Istanbul. Prices varied between destinations and although these prices are higher, they’re still very reasonable, especially considering you are in a major tourist destination and if you walk just 5-10 minutes away from the most touristy areas, the prices drop accordingly. I will definitely be back in Istanbul and no price rises would put me off, visiting this beautiful city and its wonderful people.

I was a little over a week in Istanbul and paid so much money on visiting museums, and attractions. Food is ok, if you don't go to very expensive places, and I recommend staying in Old Town. But turism was extremely expensive, also the Bazars prices are way too expensive, you can ind everything you find there outside of the bazars. There you only experience the thrill of bargain :) I loved Istanbul bu beware of the expensive attractions !

It is honestly weird and a bit hostile to get angry/offended if a doner was called shawarma. The tourist isn't intentionally trying to insult the restaurant owner/workers by calling it shawarma. You are also right that most of the residents in Istanbul don't speak English, which is also strange considering it is a major tourist attraction. I've interacted with 5-star hotel staff who don't speak a word of english, which was quite shocking. Some of which also get offended when you speak English to them. Expecting tourists from all around the world to learn some Turkish before coming, a language specific to one country, is unreasonable. Otherwise, good video.

I find the short term rentals in Istanbul to be a rip off. Many scams using Airbnb and the prices are through the roof when you want something decent for a family. Prices for rentals are much more expensive than other countries we have visited and the quality is lacking. Just my personal opinion, but it is definitely a consideration my family takes into account when thinking about a return to Türkiye.
